Upon installation, the Access Database Module is turned off for new installs. To enable the module, the user must edit the EDAS.INI file in the E-DAS Program Directory to set the DATABASE flag in the [POLL] section to YES (DATABASE=YES). For upgrades, the DATABASE flag will remain as it is originally set in the existing INI file. 5.2 Web Toolkit The E-DAS Web Toolkit is now included as part of the standard Ambient product beginning with version 5.34 Service Pack 3. This toolkit allows the user to easily put E-DAS Hourly data on their web site. Certain prerequisites are required before the Web Toolkit can be used such as the Access Database Module must be installed and enabled, the user MUST be running a web server based on Microsoft IIS, etc. The Web Toolkit documentation discusses these requirements, and more. 5.3 AQI Changes An EDAS.INI setting was added to allow the user to configure an AQI multiplier that will act on data being reported via the AQI Report programs. The flag AQIMULTIPLIER in the [EDITINST] section of the EDAS.INI file may be set to YES (AQIMULTIPLIER=YES). Once enabled, the user may add a multiplier in the Instrument Editor (under the MORE button) and it will be applied to any data from that instrument that is going to the AQI report. The main purpose of this feature is to allow the user to report data in different units (PPB vs. PPM, etc.). This is also handy if the same parameter at different sites have different units. 5.4 Poll Manager and Poller Focus Two flags were added to the [POLL] section of the EDAS.INI file to allow the user to give the Poll Manager and/or Poller window focus. By setting the PMFOCUS to YES (PMFOCUS=YES), the Poll Manager will have window focus when it runs. In the same manner, setting FOCUS to YES (FOCUS=YES) will cause the Poller to have windows focus. The default value for both flags is NO. 5.5 AIRS Enhancements The user may now generate re-engineered AIRS output for 5-minute SO2 data. The AIRS program was also changed to show the appropriate AIRS NULL codes if an entire hour of 5-minute SO2 data are invalid. If such a situation exists, the AIRS program will now use the NULL code from the first 5-minute average for that hour. The AIRS program was fixed to no longer create type-2 records for non-continuous data for days that do not contain any such data. NULL codes for Auxiliary data are now handled the same as for Hourly data. 5.6 Data Editor Flags A change to the data editors was made to allow the user to assign a null value code to the "<" flag. Previously, the "Set Flag Colors and Null Value Codes" option did not work properly for the "<" flag. This problem has been fixed. In order for the modifications to take effect, the user first must delete the FLAGS.TXT file located in the E-DAS Data directory. After deleting the file, run the Matrix Data Editor from the E-DAS Editors menu, and select the "Set Flag Colors and Null Value Codes" option from the editor's Flag menu. You can then assign a null code to the "<" flag. _____________________________________________________________ 6.0 WHAT'S NEW IN Version 5.34 Service Pack 2 of E-DAS Ambient for Windows _____________________________________________________________ 6.1 The EPA no longer accepts AIRS records with transaction type 4. When you generate AIRS output, you will get type 1 with missing data codes instead of type 4. _____________________________________________________________ 7.0 WHAT'S NEW IN Version 5.34 Service Pack 1 of E-DAS Ambient for Windows _____________________________________________________________ 7.1 Purge Settings in EDAS.INI File Additional settings were added under the [PURGE] heading of the EDAS.INI file to allow the user to better manage disk space used by various log files such as the Communication Error Log, the Operator Message Log, etc. The user may also configure a minimum disk space limit, which will generate an alarm if available disk space should become lower than the limit. These settings were previously defined in the file FILELIST.LIM 7.2 Hiding Configuration Menus in EDAS.INI File Under the [SYSTEMTYPE] heading of the EDAS.INI file, the system administrator may now hide configuration menus from users by setting the SHOWCONFIG setting to NO [SHOWCONFIG=NO]. The default setting is YES. A typical network user of E-DAS would have this setting to NO to prevent the network user from altering any configuration data. 7.3 New Report A Multi-Hourly Monthly Report has been added to the Report Menu. 7.4 EDAS.INI Editor now allows edits on all settings The EDAS.INI Editor available for administrators (logging in with the "master" password) now supports all EDAS.INI settings, allowing the administrator to edit the file from the E-DAS Menu directly. 7.5 AIRS Enhancement Two delimiters were added to the end of the "RD" record type for re-engineered AIRS in order to make the record acceptable to the EPA's computer system. _____________________________________________________________ 8.0 WHAT'S NEW IN Version 5.34 of E-DAS Ambient for Windows _____________________________________________________________ 8.1 Automatic Update of EDAS.INI File As detailed in Section 5.0 of this README file the EDAS.INI file contains advanced options settings. Version 5.34 added some new fields to this file and will automatically update the existing EDAS.INI file to include these new fields during installation, while retaining the user's previous settings for all other fields. 8.2 AQI Time Zone Comparison Several modifications have been made to the AQI reporting modules in order to better support users who have data loggers in different time zones than the polling computer. The site time zone is compared to the polling computer's system time zone. If there is a difference, the average relative to the polling computer's time zone is used in the calculation of the AQI. 8.3 Mapping Module A new mapping module has been added which can display sites, parameters, and the most recent levels for selected pollutants on a map of the user's area. There is now a "Map" menu on the menu bar for the main E-DAS screen. Under the Map menu are the options "Site Map Configuration Editor", and "Site Map Display". Select "Site Map Configuration Editor" to setup the link to the desired map file (supplied by the user) and to configure the site locations and parameter selections. Select "Site Map Display" to display the most recent hourly data on the map. As new data is polled, the map will be updated automatically. If data exceeds certain preset limits (as configured by the user), the background color of the data will change. The Help file included with this version includes more detail on using on Site Mapping. 8.4 Automatic AQI Report for Previous Day The AQI Report can now be configured to generate an automatic report of the AQI for the previous day. This can be done by changing the AQI setting in the EDAS.INI file to "YESTERDAY" (the default is STANDARD). 8.5 Purge Minute Data Users can now set the system to purge minute data after a selected number of days. A new field has been added to the "Set System Parameters" screen, where the user can specify the number of days after which the minute data will be automatically purged. On new installations, the automatic purge option will be set to "disabled" by default. The user must enable this feature if desired. 8.6 Matrix Data Editor Users can now assign a different type face for data flagged with the less-than flag ("<"). This will allow the color of the 2nd priority flag to be viewed, while also indicating the presence of the less-than flag via the different type style. The user can choose between, normal, bold, italic, and italic/bold type faces. Colors can no longer be assigned to the less-than flag. 8.7 On-Line Help On-Line help is now available (WinHelp format) anywhere in the program. Pressing F1 or selecting Help|Help Topics will present on-line help, featuring Contents, Index, Find, and AnswerWizard (for asking questions in plain English). ____________________________________________________________ 9.0 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS _____________________________________________________________ Each PC is different and larger monitoring networks may need more resources for optimum performance. The following minimum PC hardware and operating system requirements are recommended for successful installation and operation of version 5.42 of the E-DAS software: 300 MHZ Pentium processor 128 MB RAM 2 GB hard disk SVGA color monitor and graphics adapter One serial port (A second port is necessary for remote call-in to the PC.) One parallel port for a printer Printer (e.g., LaserJet, DeskJet) NOTE: Dot Matrix is not recommended because daily summary reports and monthly reports require landscape printing. One internal CD-ROM drive Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000 or XP _____________________________________________________________ 10.0 EDAS.INI OVERVIEW _____________________________________________________________ The E-DAS Ambient software uses a proprietary initialization file (.INI file). It contains advanced options settings that usually do not need to be changed. When an INI setting needs to be changed, the EDAS.INI file can be edited. For example, a particular word processor can be specified to view reports. The "VIEWERNAME" setting defaults to WordPad in Windows 95, 98, or NT. The EDAS.INI file is located in the E-DAS program directory and it can be edited in two ways. After logging on with the master password, administrative personnel can edit the file via the "Admin" menu. Operators without the master password can edit the EDAS.INI file directly in the E-DAS program directory. To make changes to the INI file after logging in with the master password, select Edit EDAS.INI file from the "Admin" menu. You will see an INI File Editor. To see the subcategories under each heading, double-click the heading or click the "+" sign to the left of the heading. The subcategories will drop down. Only the subcategories can be edited. When you select a subcategory (e.g., [REPORTS | VIEWERNAME]), the current setting for that function will be displayed in the top-right text box labeled "Value". The "Default" for that unction will be displayed directly below the "Value". To change the "Value", highlight it in the list and enter a new "Value" text box. The "Default" cannot be changed. Click "OK" to save changes, or click "Cancel" to discard changes. You will return to the main menu. Operators without access to the "Admin" menu can edit the EDAS.INI file directly in the EDASAMB program directory via the Windows Explorer. To make changes to the EDAS.INI file directly in the program directory, select "Programs | Windows Explorer" from the Windows 95, 98, or NT "Start" menu on the taskbar. In the left side of the Windows Explorer, double-click to open the "EDASAMB" directory. In the right side of Windows Explorer, double-click the "EDAS.INI" (or "edas") icon within the program directory to open the EDAS.INI file in Notepad or WordPad. From the Notepad "Search" menu, select "Find" and enter the setting you need to change. Click "Find Next". You can also scroll through the file and find the setting. Edit the setting. From the Notepad "File" menu, select "Save," then "Exit." Windows NT users need to modify the INI file if they get an error message ("Error displaying file") when they try to view reports. NT users should open the EDAS.INI file as described above. Find [VIEWERNAME] under [REPORTS] and change the path to the viewing software from the default path of: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRA~1\ACCESSORIES\WORDPAD" to the path of your viewer. For example: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRA~1\WINDOW~1\ACCESS~1\WORDPAD" without the "" marks. If that setting does not work, or you are running on Windows 2000, try: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS NT\ACCESSORIES\WORDPAD.EXE" NOTE: Every PC is different. If neither configuration works on your computer, select "Find | Files or Folders" from your Windows "Start" menu and enter "WORDPAD.EXE" to locate WordPad. In the EDAS.INI file after [VIEWERNAME=], enter the path to WordPad as it is listed in the "In Folder" column of the "Find" screen. If you still get an error message, contact ESC Windows technical support. _____________________________________________________________ 11.0 BEFORE YOU CALL . . . _____________________________________________________________ After installing the E-DAS software, double-click the ESC Menu icon to configure the system. Before starting up the Scheduler, make sure you have specified the initial polling time in the Scheduler setup screen. If the initial polling time has not been specified, the Scheduler will not run. For assistance, look in the troubleshooting section of the E-DAS User's Guide and Reference Manual or call ESC Technical Support, Windows Division, at 865-688-7900, extension 1460.
