By setting the PMFOCUS to YES (PMFOCUS=YES), the Poll Manager will have window focus when it runs. In the same manner, setting FOCUS to YES (FOCUS=YES) will cause the Poller to have windows focus. The default value for both flags is NO. 5.2 Data Editor Flags A change to the data editors was made to allow the user to assign a null value code to the "<" flag. Previously, the "Set Flag Colorsand Null Value Codes" option did not work properly for the "<" flag. This problem has been fixed. In order for the modifications to take effect, the user first must delete the ESCFLAGS.TXT file located in the E-DAS Program directory. After deleting the file, run the Matrix Data Editor from the E-DAS Editors menu, and select the "Set Flag Colors and Null Value Codes" option from the editor's Flag menu. You can then assign a null code to the "<" flag. _____________________________________________________________ 6.0 WHAT'S NEW IN Version 5.34 Service Pack 2 of E-DAS Digi-Trend Central for Windows _____________________________________________________________ 6.1 There are no significant changes to 5.34 Service Pack 2 of E-DAS Digi-Trend Central for Windows. _____________________________________________________________ 7.0 WHAT'S NEW IN Version 5.34 Service Pack 1 of E-DAS Digi-Trend Central for Windows _____________________________________________________________ 7.1 Purge Settings in EDAS.INI File Additional settings were added under the [PURGE] heading of the EDAS.INI file to allow the user to better manage disk space used by various log files such as the Communication Error Log, the Operator Message Log, etc. The user may also configure a minimum disk space limit, which will generate an alarm if available disk space should become lower than the limit. These settings were previously defined in the file FILELIST.LIM 7.2 Hiding Configuration Menus in EDAS.INI File Under the [SYSTEMTYPE] heading of the EDAS.INI file, the system administrator may now hide configuration menus from users by setting the SHOWCONFIG setting to NO (SHOWCONFIG=NO). The default setting is YES. A typical network user of E-DAS would have this setting to NO to prevent the network user from altering any configuration data. 7.3 New Report A Multi-Hourly Monthly Report has been added to the Report Menu. 7.4 EDAS.INI Editor now allows edits on all settings The EDAS.INI Editor available for administrators (logging in with the "master" password) now supports all EDAS.INI settings, allowing the administrator to edit the file from the E-DAS Menu directly. _____________________________________________________________ 8.0 WHAT WAS NEW IN Version 5.34 _____________________________________________________________ 8.1 Automatic Update of EDAS.INI File As detailed in Section 4.0 of this README file the EDAS.INI file contains advanced options settings. Version 5.34 added some new fields to this file and will automatically update the existing EDAS.INI file during installation to include these new fields, while retaining the user's previous settings for all other fields. 8.2 Matrix Data Editor Users can now assign a different typeface for data flagged with the less-than flag ("<"). This will allow the color of the 2nd priority flag to be viewed, while also indicating the presence of the less-than flag via the different type style. The user can choose between, normal, bold, italic, and italic/bold type faces. Colors can no longer be assigned to the less-than flag. 8.3 On-Line Help On-Line help is now available (WinHelp format) anywhere in the program. Pressing F1 or selecting Help|Help Topics will present on-line help, featuring Contents, Index, Find, and AnswerWizard (for asking questions in plain English). _____________________________________________________________ 9.0 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ____________________________________________________________ Each PC is different and larger monitoring networks may need more resources for optimum performance. The following minimum PC hardware and operating system requirements are recommended for successful installation and operation of version 5.42 of the E-DAS software: 300 MHZ Pentium processor 128 MB RAM 2 GB hard disk SVGA color monitor and graphics adapter One serial port (A second port is necessary for remote call-in to the PC.) One parallel port Printer (e.g., LaserJet, DeskJet) NOTE: Dot Matrix is not recommended because daily summary reports and monthly reports require landscape printing. One internal CD-ROM drive Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/XP _____________________________________________________________ 10.0 EDAS.INI OVERVIEW _____________________________________________________________ The E-DAS software uses a proprietary initialization file (.INI file). It contains advanced options settings that usually do not need to be changed. When an INI setting needs to be changed, the EDAS.INI file can be edited. For example, a particular word processor can be specified to view reports. The "VIEWERNAME" setting defaults to WordPad in Windows 95, 98,or NT. The EDAS.INI file is located in the E-DAS program directory and it can be edited in two ways. After logging on with the master password, administrative personnel can edit the file via the "Admin" menu. Operators without the master password can edit the EDAS.INI file directly in the E-DAS program directory. To make changes to the INI file after logging in with the master password, select Edit EDAS.INI file from the "Admin" menu. You will see an INI File Editor. To see the subcategories under each heading, double-click the heading or click the "+" sign to the left of the heading. The subcategories will drop down. Only the subcategories can be edited. When you select a subcategory (e.g., "REPORTS | VIEWERNAME"), the current setting for that function will be displayed in the top-right text box labeled "Value". The "Default" for that function will be displayed directly below the "Value". To change the "Value", highlight it in the list and enter a new "Value" text box. The "Default" cannot be changed. Click "OK" to save changes, or click "Cancel" to discard changes. You will return to the main menu. Operators without access to the "Admin" menu can edit the EDAS.INI file directly in the E-DAS program directory via the Windows Explorer. To make changes to the EDAS.INI file directly in the program directory, select "Programs | Windows Explorer" from the Windows 95, 98, or NT "Start" menu on the taskbar. In the left side of the Windows Explorer, double-click to open the Digi-Trend program directory. In the right side of Windows Explorer, double-click the "EDAS.INI" (or "edas") icon within the program directory to open the EDAS.INI file in Notepad or WordPad. From the Notepad "Search" menu, select "Find" and enter the setting you need to change. Click "Find Next". (You can also scroll through the file and find the setting.) Edit the setting. From the Notepad "File" menu, select "Save," then "Exit." Windows NT users need to modify the INI file if they get an error message ("Error displaying file") when they try to view reports. NT users should open the EDAS.INI file as described above. Find "VIEWERNAME" under "REPORTS" and change the path to the viewing software from the default path of: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRA~1\ACCESSORIES\WORDPAD" to the path of your viewer, for example: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRA~1\WINDOW~1\ACCESS~1\WORDPAD" (Do not include quotation marks.) If that setting does not work, or you are using Windows 2000, try: "VIEWERNAME=C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS NT\ ACCESSORIES\WORDPAD.EXE" NOTE: Every PC is different. If neither configuration works on your computer, select "Find | Files or Folders" from your Windows "Start" menu and enter "WORDPAD.EXE" to locate WordPad. In the EDAS.INI file after "VIEWERNAME=," enter the path to WordPad as it is listed in the "In Folder" column of the "Find" screen. If you still get an error message, contact ESC Windows technical support. _____________________________________________________________ 11.0 BEFORE YOU CALL . . . _____________________________________________________________ After installing the Digi-Trend software, double-click the ESC Menu icon to configure the system. Before starting up the Scheduler, make sure you have specified the initial polling time in the Scheduler setup screen. If the initial polling time has not been specified, the Scheduler will not run. For assistance, look in the troubleshooting section of the Digi-Trend User's Guide and Reference Manual or call ESC Technical Support, Windows Division, at 865-688-7900, extension 1460.
