  39. When I try to edit an historical graph through the Real-Time Display for Digi-Trend site, I receive a message "You must log in to enter a memo."
  40. When I start the CLAIRE system, I receive a message "Error initializing voice board parameters."
  41. There are no values for any of the sites showing up in the CLAIRE system.
  42. The CLAIRE has lost connection with the server.
  43. I have tried to turn on the Audit Trail several time, but it will not remain turned on.
  44. Will the software allow me to poll one site from comport two and poll the rest of the sites from comport one?

1. I receive a message saying "No sites have been configured", even though sites have been entered.

Look at the lower left corner of your EDAS main menu. The path that the menu is looking at will be in black text.  If the path of the directory is not correct, change it under Set system parameters.

2. When I select Selective instrument download to data logger, some of the instruments are not listed.

Make sure the parameter has been enabled. To do this, select Set up instrument information to check the setup of the missing parameters. See if the Instrument Enabled box is checked. If the box is checked, make sure that the needed averaging intervals are enabled as well.

3. When building strings to configure data logger, I receive the message "No ports available."

Under the Comm Port Setup button, in the Set system parameters screen, make sure the correct communications port is enabled, a modem driver has been selected, and nothing else is using the port. If you are using a direct connection, make sure the phone number field in the site editor is blank and only one communications port is enabled.

4. When I try to link to the logger, I receive the message "No ports available."

Under the Comm Port Setup button, in the Set system parameters screen, make sure the correct communications port is enabled, a modem driver has been selected, and nothing else is using the port. If you are using a direct connection, make sure the phone number field in the site editor is blank and only one communications port is enabled.

5. When I try to link to the logger with a direct connection, I receive the message "No ports available."

Check the Site screen to make sure the phone number field is blank. If there is a phone number in the field, erase it. Click Ok, and try to link to the logger again.  It should make the connection.

6. When I link to logger the black screen will not open.

Make sure that only one comm port is selected. This is set up under Setup / Set system parameters / Comm Port Setup button. Disable the comm port that is not being used, and click OK. Click OK on the Setup system parameters screen.

7. DELETED

8. I am using a laptop, and the modem will not connect to the site.

Most laptops have internal modems. The software is not compatible with internal modems, and is usually unsuccessful in connecting to the site. We recommend using an external modem when polling or linking to a logger.

9. I am unable to initiate automatic polling.

A polling program must be created and scheduled in order for automatic polling to run.  The Scheduler must be running in order to poll automatically. If the Scheduler is running the red alarm clock icon will be in the system tray on the windows start bar.

10. When polling, "Invalid check sum" appears on the polling window.

The software has requested data from the logger, and has had some problems receiving a response. If the software does not receive data within the specified timeout period.  It will send another request. If the poll is connected at a slower baud rate, the timeout may not be large enough to give the data time to be sent back. The timeout can be changed by editing the Edas.ini file. Refer to the Troubleshooting section in the manual under Polling for steps on editing the Edas.ini file. Also, make sure the configuration settings in the software matches the configuration settings in the logger. If the logger was set up manually and not downloaded from the software, the configuration settings in the logger may not match the configuration settings in the software. This could result in the software asking the logger for an instrument it does not have.

11. When polling, "Error reading response strings" appears on the polling window.

If you are using a direct connection, make sure the cables are connected securely in the ports on the pc and the logger. If you are using a modem, make sure you can link to the logger using the Link to logger menu located under Utilities, to see if the connection is made and you receive the login menu from the logger. If you are able to link to the logger successfully, make sure the configuration settings in the software matches the configuration settings in the logger. If the logger was set up manually and not downloaded from the software, the configuration settings in the logger may not match the configuration settings in the software. This could result in the software asking the logger for an instrument it does not have.

12. When the automatic poll updates to the database I get an error with the printer, but I don't have a printer connected.

When a report is scheduled to run automatically, it will try to print to the default printer. If a printer is not connected to the polling pc, it will give an error when it tries to print. Check the polling tasks to make sure a report is not selected. If there is a report selected, remove it by clicking the down arrow under report information and selecting the first field, which is blank. If no report is selected, check the scheduled tasks. If a report is scheduled to run separately from the polling tasks, remove it by clicking on the report listed at the top. Click the Remove button, then the Ok button.

13. The automatic poll is trying to dial two sites at the same time.

Make sure that only one comm port is selected. This is set up under Setup / Set system parameters / Comm Port Setup button. Disable the comm port that is not being used, and click OK. Click OK on the Setup system parameters screen.

14. When the zip backup runs, it is not copying today's data.

Open the Edasamb directory through the Windows Explorer. Find the file Edas.ini and open it with Notepad. Find [ZIPDRIVE], and the second down is PERIOD=PREVIOUS. Previous means the previous day. If you want it to copy over the current days data, change PREVIOUS to CURRENT. Select File and Save.

15. Polling appears to be taking place, but no data is displayed on the reports.

Make sure the time on the pc matches the time on the logger, and that it is not ahead of the logger time. If the pc time is faster than the logger time, then the pc will poll the logger for data that does not exist. Make sure the data is stored in the logger long enough for the software to be able to poll it. If it is a new install, make sure the time zone for the pc is set correctly under Setup/Set system parameters. If the time between the logger and the pc are the same, then run a data report with all flags to see if the data appears with invalid flags attached to it. If the data is invalid it will not show up on certain reports.

16. I am polling calibration data from an 8800 logger, but the data isn't being written to the database.

Check to see if the logger is still storing the calibration data you are polling for.
If the data is there, check to see if the data has been marked with a P flag (for
purging). If the data has not been marked with a P flag, then manual poll for
calibration data only and check the box for acknowledge data. This will mark the data in the logger to be purged. Once the data is marked with a P flag, then poll again with the acknowledge data box unchecked and the calibration data should then be able to update to the database. It is probably a good idea to acknowledge the calibration data every poll except when other agencies are polling also. Then acknowledge the calibration data at least once a week or day.

17. When running reports I receive a message "Error displaying file."

If you are running on Windows NT the Edas.ini file will need to be edited to show
the file path for the location of Wordpad.exe. Refer to the Troubleshooting section
in the manual under Reports for steps to edit the Edas.ini file.

18. When running reports I receive a message number 6 "overflow."

In the instrument editor, check the decimal positioner for each instrument that is
included on the report. If the value polled from the logger is very large, the decimal is set to high, causing the report to not be able to display the value. Lower the decimal, and run the report again. If the error still occurs, then lower the decimal again, and run the report. You may need to set the decimal to zero in order to get larger values to be displayed.

19. When running a data report I receive a message "No instruments have been configured to store data with an averaging of .......... as required for this report", after the instrument has already been set up.

If the parameter you are running the report for has data, then the settings for
that parameter has been damaged and will need to be deleted and re-entered into the software to clear the error. Also make sure that the data type that was selected for the report is the correct data type for that parameter. Example: You cannot run a report for second data for a parameter that is not set up to collect second data.

20. When I run any of the reports for a specific day or for the whole month I receive a message Error 5 "Invalid procedure call or argument."

Run the report for a different day to see if the error appears. If the error does not appear, then run the report for the whole week. If the error appears, then run the report for another week in the month. If the error does not appear, then the data for a specific day or days is damaged. Run the report for each week out of the month to see which weeks the error appears on, then narrow it down by running the report for each day of the week to see which day the error appears on. Once you have narrowed down which day(s) the error is appearing on, this will indicate the data that is damaged. This data will need to be deleted to correct the error. The data can be repolled if the logger still has it stored, manually entered, or copied from the raw data.

21. When I try to print a Minute Averages With All Flags report I receive a message Error number 13 "Type mismatch."

This has been corrected in Service Pack 3 for Version 5.34.

22. When I run a Monitor or Boiler Downtime report, I receive a message "No matching time-on-line channel found."

You will need to set up a matching time-on-line channel that has the same intervals of the parameter(s) you are monitoring. Refer to the manual in Chapter 6.9 "Configuring a Time On-Line Channel."

23. When opening the Matrix Data editor I receive a message, Error Number 3343 "Application defined or object defined."

Open the Windows Explorer and double-click the data directory (ex: EDASDATA).   Right-click the file Audittrl.mdb and select cut form the menu. Paste the file in a different directory and open the Matrix Data editor again. If it opens without the error, the Audittrl.mdb file is damaged. Delete the file. The next time you run the Matrix Data editor, the software will create a new Audittrl.mdb file.

24. When the poll tries to update or when I edit data in the Matrix editor, I receive an Error Number 3201.

If you are running the Access Database Module, you will need to find the file
Escdata.mdb, located in the data directory, and move it to an empty folder. Then go to the EDAS menu and select Utilities / Convert data to Access Database. The Access Database Conversion Utility screen will appear. Convert the configuration files only, and run a poll. This will create a new Escdata.mdb file. If the error does not reappear, the original mdb file is damaged. You will need to continue to use the newly created file.
If you have installed the Access Database Module but it is turned off, check the
Edas.ini file for:
[DATABASE]
UPDATEHOURLYDATA=YES
UPDATEAUXILIARYDATA=YES
and change them to equal NO. Select Save from the File menu.

If you have not installed the Access Database and continue to get the error, contact Technical Support at 865-688-7900.

25. When I am editing data in the Matrix Editor in Version 5.40, some of the cells do not left justify.

Slowly proceed to the next cell after making the edit to allow time for left
justification. If you have finished editing the data, and you see that some of the
cells are not left justified, click View from the menu, and then Refresh. The process should finish.

26. In E-DAS Ambient 5.40 and below, you have added some instruments, but they do not show up on the OMS or AIRNow report.

New instruments will not show on the AIRNow report unless they have been included in the polling task for OMSAUTO or AIRNOW. Also, make sure the instruments have been set up in the Select pollutants screen under the AIRNow menu.

27. In E-DAS Ambient 5.40 and below, the OMS or AIRNow file is not being created.

A polling task for the OMSAUTO or AIRNOW report has not been set up, that polling task does not have any instruments selected, or the pollutants have not been selected under OMS or AIRNow then Select pollutants.

28. When I try to set up Mnemonic names in the OMS or AIRNow setup, I receive a message "Runtime Error 9, Subscript out of range."

Open the data directory from the Windows Explorer. Find the file Mnemonic.dat and delete it. You will then need to open the E-DAS menu, and re-set up the mnemonic names for each site.

29. When I try to edit the ozone transfer program I receive a message, Error Number 9 "Subscript out of range."

Open the data directory through the Windows Explorer. Find the file o3tran.dat and delete it. Go back to the E-DAS menu, and open the edit ozone transfer program. You will need to re-set up the transfer settings in this screen.

30. I am importing an AIRS file but the software is not accepting the file.

The site, parameter(s), and EPA codes have to be set up, and the file has to be in the correct format before the E-DAS software will accept an AIRS file.

31. The AIRS file will not accept the four digit numerical null codes that have been assigned to the five-minute SO2 data.

When five-minute SO2 data is generated in the AIRS file it takes the highest value from that hour and puts it in the AIRS file. If the whole hour is invalid then it is not going to put the null code in the AIRS file, but instead will put in a 9999.  Five-minute SO2 data should not need to be edited.

32. When I generate a new re-engineered AIRS file, there are little boxes where the null code should be.

If data has been imported from an old AIRS file format that has the four-digit null codes, it will not be able to read the old null codes, and cannot transfer them to the new codes. The new null code has to be attached to the data. For continuous data, use the Matrix data editor to assign the new codes to the data flags. To do this select Flags/Set Flag Colors and Null Value Codes, and assign each data flag a code under the column Null Value Code ($$), which is for the new alpha null codes. The column Null Value Code (####) is for the old four-digit null codes. For non-continuous data, use the Add or edit offline data editor. Retrieve the data and put in the alpha code under New Null AIRS Code ($$).

33. When I generate a re-engineered AIRS file, there are asterisks in the file.

If you have both AIRS codes and SAROAD codes setup and they are both write enabled, asterisks will appear in the output file. To check the codes, select Ambient/Set up EPA data codes. Select the site and parameter, then click ok. Check the parameter that is showing asterisks on the file.  If it has the AIRS and the SAROAD enable, disable the SAROAD codes and re-generate the file.

34. The E-DAS software will not import an ASCII file, and I don't know how to find the data.

If the ASCII file was generated with another software package other than the E-DAS software, the file must be the same format the E-DAS software uses before it can be imported. The software also has to have the configuration set up in the software for the type of instrument of which you are importing data. Contact ESC Windows Technical Support for E-DAS ASCII format, at 865-688-7900.

35. In Ambient 5.34 and above, When I open the Site Map Display, the values do not update.

The map has to be running on the screen or minimized to the taskbar when the poll takes place in order for the values to update. If you open the map after the poll has ran, the values will not update. If the map is left open it will update after the next poll runs.

39. When I try to edit an historical graph through the Real-Time Display for Digi-Trend site, I receive a message "You must log in to enter a memo."

Before any edits can be made to an historical graph, you will need to open the E-DAS Menu and log in.

40. When I start the CLAIRE system, I receive a message "Error initializing voice board parameters."

This error means the voice board is not running. You will need to go into the
Configuration Manager under Dialogic Development Package in the programs list, and select Automatic, then click the Start button. Once the board is running, the Stop button will darken.

41. There are no values for any of the sites showing up in the CLAIRE system.

Under Automatic Reports in the Edas.ini file, VOICEAQI should be set to equal ALL.  For steps on editing the Edas.ini file, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Ambient manual.

42. The CLAIRE pc has lost connection with the server.

First check to see if the network drive can be seen by the CLAIRE pc. If so, then check to see if a drive has been mapped to the network drive through the Windows Explorer. If not, map a drive to the network, then open the properties on CLAIRE and select the network drive and data directory. This will allow the CLAIRE pc to see the data on the network.

43. I have tried to turn on the Audit Trail several times, but it will not remain turned on.

The Audit Trail can only be turned on when logged into the menu using the Admin password.

44. Will the software allow me to poll one site from comport two and poll the rest of the sites from comport one?

Yes, the settings have to be turned on in the Edas.ini file to allow the software to use specific settings for the comports. Contact our Technical Support Department for steps and assistance turning on these settings.
